Artist Connections: Interior Designers

At Tonnta, we greatly appreciate the work of all creatives, including Interior Designers. We see Interior Designers and Artists to be a pair of creatives who can have a very fulfilling symbiotic relationship. In this article, we will break down from the artists perspective why connecting with Interior Designers can be a benefit for them.

You have a salesperson!

When an interior designer wants to use your work for a space they’re working on, they are presenting your work to a buyer. This means less work for you when it comes to the sales process. By having an interior designer essentially pitching your work, they have intentionally selected your work for a reason and will make a case for their client to invest in your work. That means that everyone an interior designer brings to you has a greater chance of investing in your work.

Aligned with your aesthetic

Artists are careful of who they collaborate with and it’s just as important when it comes to private sales as well. If an interior designer has connected with you to get a piece of artwork, they have already considered the space and its relationship to the artwork. By being aligned with the aesthetic, any pictures that arise from this relationship, whether it be the owner posting on social media, or the interior designer featuring it on their online portfolio, your artwork will be represented in the best possible way.

Expand your connections

You are likely getting to connect with people that your current marketing methods don’t reach. For example, your main focus of marketing is on Facebook, but the new customers brought to you by an interior designer don’t engage on social media. By having customers referred to you by a trusted designer, you have a new channel in which people can discover and connect with you.

So how do you find interior designers? Well you could start by connecting with interior designers that align with you! Even a follow on their Instagram page could pique their interest and have them mentally bookmark your work for a future project. Better again, reach out with a message if you feel it’s the right thing to do.

Hashtags could also be a method for you to connect with interior designers. In her module “Creating Experience with Art and Objects” on Masterclass, Kelly Wearstler says that she searches for hashtags such as #emergingartistto find fresh new art for a space she’s designing. She also uses hashtags related to a new location, such as #newyorkartist.
